Thursday, April 3

Thanks for the answers. I would like Evan, James, Andrew to weigh in on the question posed on Wed..

Your tech information forms are due on Friday, April 4th to Ms. Houston. I will then give them to Rob.

If you are planning on being absent from school or rehearsal, please send Ms. Vander Schaaff an email so that she knows you will not be there. You can also send in a task or something for your actors. I don't know who was missing specifically, but as she said, you are not setting a great example by not being there. I know James was not in school.

You missed a day of running lines and Monday is the deadline for being off-book and it is not a joke. You have two weeks before tech week.

Please respond seriously to this request:
What is your favorite warm-up game and why? How does it help an individual actor or a group? Eventually, you will need to be running warm-ups, if you are not already doing so (I would encourage you to do so, but I know time is limited), and I want you all to make a plan of how you are going to run them. Remember the mind, voice, and body all need to be warm.

In our line up, is Joe in the first play on the first night?

I don't think Joe is in Lauren's play, but there may be an issue with Yosup--who is also needed by Ms. Swope. I do not know if there is a single play in which both Joe and Yosup are not cast members. If we had to make a choice, I think we need to pick a show that Joe is not in to go first b/c I think he is more essential to what Ms. Swope needs.
Also--if all 6 shoes come in under 2.5 hours, I think we should consider making the program one complete show. If the times are over 3 hrs., then I love the idea of the slip, as discussed. Can we keep both options open until we get better running time?

I meant to say "love the idea of the split"--not slip. How do I edit this thing?

I don't think there will be any need for a split.

I can't really say about warm-ups, I don't recall much from that long ago.

For warm-ups, I think vocal warm-ups are key. Especially since there are no mics and people really need to speak up and enunciate their words..the vocal warm-ups like "big black bugs.." ect, always help me. I also like doing a minute of silence, I feel like that helps getting people focused on their characters and the performance. And of course, on the show nights, a round of crabs to get everyone's energy up.

Today was somewhat of a tedious rehersal for me. We got things accomplished, but everyone seemed a bit out of it. Things are getting there though, one day at a time

I think we should keep it all as one show. There's no way it should run more than 2.5 hours.

As far as warm-ups go, I agree with lauren. Energy & focus are always the goals. And I think Mike made a valid point by saying we should make them do warmups that make them comfortable with us and open on stage. A lot of them are young and new.

In other news, I am working on a t-shirt. I need to know which picture of a sandwich, if any, you like. I'll drop off pictures to Houston tomorrow cause I can't seem to make the link work. Someone remember that.

My favorite warm-up is the deep breath one. You know the "in for 2, out for 8 one" For me, taking deep breathes seems to realx me and make me less nervouse, especially if i do it right before i go on. Although, this only works if everyone in the cast takes it seriously...

In terms of Warm ups, I think there are two key types. My favorite two have always been passing the clap...and yes while this sounds like the transfer of an STD i simply am talking about passing a clapping sound from person to person in a circle. I think that this readies everyones nerves and makes you alert and in-sync with one another without words. The second type I would suggest would be vocal warm-ups. such as red leather yellow leather. Tung twister's allow for good annunciation as well as vocal concentration.

I think that we are just setting Act One and Act Two orders, I don't think there will be a need for splitting up and doing only a few shows on each night - does that make sense? What is it that is happening with Ms. Swope? I'm confused (and it is probably not really something I need to know, I'm just curious). Who is Yosup in Lauren's show? Is he a central character?
